Possibilities based on number ranges:

  • 0-2 : ternary or Morse (dot, dash, break)
  • 0-1 : Binary or Braile
  • 1-12 : Hours or Months
  • 0-59 : minutes
  • 1-31 : Days
  • 1-7: Days of the week
  • A-F: Hex
  • A-G: Music
  • A-I: Digits (maps to 1-9)
  • 52: weeks, cards, alphabet x 2

 

Common patterns:

  • A->1, B->2, , Z->26 (or other general substitution ciphers)
  • Morse
  • Semaphore
  • Indexing (forward and backwards and diagonal)
  • Binary
    • 8 bit (ASCII)
    • 4 bit (A->1, etc)
    • 3 bit (Braile, digits)
    • 1 bit (true/false)
  • ASCII Range (65 == A -> 97 == a)
  • Add/Remove/Change a letter
  • Group words
  • Braile

Other Possibilities:

  • 10 digits: phone#s w/area code
  • 9 digits: Social Security
  • 7 digits: phone#s
  • 5 digits: zip codes (or MS extensions)
  • 3 digits: area codes (or degrees or interstates)
  • 2-3 digits: MS buildings (no 7)
  • 2/4/6 digits: Dates
  • Things in various bases (Hex, binary, octal)
  • Prime numbers
