I had a little snowboarding accident this week. Nothing terrible, but my lower lip got a bit mangled. I looked like I got into a fight. I’ve been telling people I got into a fight with a bear (“You think I look bad, you should see the bear!”) A couple of people actually believed the story at first. :)

Four days later, the swelling has gone down considerably and the bruising has faded – so now it mostly looks like I have a very chapped lip. I’ll spare you guys and refrain from posting any pictures of how I looked on Wednesday.

It was awesome. I highly recommend heading out to the slopes on big football game days (unfortunately there won’t be any more of those this season). And hey, we still got to hear our team losing the Super Bowl on the drive back.

After a bit of deliberation, Kenny, Julie, Lee and I decided to head up to Stevens Pass for our snowboarding swan song of the season (Stevens actually officially closed last week, but they opened this weekend for a special engagement, in response to an unseasonal downpour of nice fluffy white stuff).

It was great to get an unexpected little treat of a snowboarding trip in, and to spend some quality time with Julie and Lee.

However, I do have a few new snowboarding rules that I’m going to try to remember next time:

Make sure to get some sleep. I can’t over-emphasize this one.

Try to eat breakfast.

If your knees are still messed up from the last time you went snowboarding, maybe you should think a little bit harder about whether you’re willing to strain them again.

Even given the fact that I didn’t follow any of the above advice, I had a great time. But my form was a bit sloppy, probably due to the lack of sleep. Which may explain the really weird fall I took getting off the lift early in the day, during which I twisted my left knee in a very unnatural fashion. I’m walking with a rather pathetic limp right now; I expect that this will put a bit of a cramp in my gym/yoga schedule for the week.
